UKRAINIAN STUDIES ON THE WORLD STAGE

Abstract

In the modern world, the role of Ukrainian studies abroad is quite important. The war reformatted the world consciousness regarding Ukraine and Ukrainians and aroused significant interest in the Ukrainian language, science, history, and culture. The number of people wishing to study the Ukrainian language has increased significantly, so the question of its role and status in the modern international educational and cultural space is relevant and requires description and characterization.The article analyzes the functioning of Ukrainian studies abroad, in particular during the war in Ukraine, paying attention to the study of the Ukrainian language in the countries of Europe, North America, East Asia, and Australia. The place and role of the Ukrainian language in the international education system are determined, the processes that influence the popularity of the Ukrainian language in the global political and cultural context are characterized; the recognition and spread of the Ukrainian language in different countries of the world are revealed; the features of the Ukrainian language as a tool of cultural diplomacy and its role in the processes of forming national identity are reviewed.The article pays considerable attention to educational and scientific institutions that form and disseminate knowledge about Ukraine, conduct educational and scientific activities in the direction of studying the Ukrainian language, literature, history, culture, etc. Based on the analysis, comparison and description of the centers of Ukrainian studies that form knowledge about Ukraine abroad, the conclusion is made about the need to continue to actively develop Ukrainian studies, in particular, to create new Ukrainian studies centers in different countries, to introduce new courses, special programs, to actively cooperate with foreign higher education institutions, while the world’s attention is focused on Ukrainian issues and the demand for information about Ukraine is growing.
