NOUN OF THE GOSPEL OF ST. MARK: ONOMASTIC, LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL ASPECTS

In The article analyzes the noun of the Gospel of St. Mark (translations by Ivan Ohienko, Panteleimon Kulish and Ivan Polyuy, partially translated by Pylyp Morachevsky) in onomastic and linguocultural aspects; the process of adaptation of biblical names in the coordinates of modern Ukrainian linguistic practice is considered; the genesis of all biblical anthroponyms of the Gospel of St. Mark is clarified; the linguocultural content of proper names is investigated. The features of phonographic reproduction of the New Testament anthroponymicon in the translation process have been clarified. The term theophoric name has been clarified – as a name that contains in its structure the general or proper name of a certain divine entity. Among the analyzed proper names, the anthroponyms Isaya, Ivan, Illya, Matviy, Symon, Juda, Joseph and Josiah are included.It is emphasized that the motivation of some anthroponyms is given directly in the Holy Scriptures.It has been proven that the anthroponymic system of a particular language is not static. It is constantly connected to the word-forming system of the recipient language. Almost all ancient Hebrew (Hebrew, Aramaic), Greek, and Latin names used in the Gospel of St. Mark found their place in the Ukrainian anthroponymicon – some as proper names, others as surnames motivated by them.The frequency and uniqueness of the use of certain biblical names within the framework of modern Ukrainian naming practice have been established and analyzed.
