LITERARY AND JOURNALISTIC ACTIVITY OF M. SYTNYK ON THE PAGES OF THE MAGAZINE “VASYLKIVSKI VISTI”

Abstract

The article highlights the literary and journalistic activity of Mykhailo Sytnyk in 1942–1943 in the magazine “Vasylkivski visti”, the head of the publishing house and editor of which he was during the Nazi occupation of Ukraine during the Second World War. The purpose of scientific research is to study the creative heritage of M. Sytnyk, in particular, his little-known publications on the pages of Ukrainian magazines: the poems “Autumn”, “New Year's Cup”, “To My Enemies”, “Death and Love”, “Girls of V.”, “On guard”; article devoted to the figure of Taras Shevchenko, p. n. “Eternally living, eternally singing”, in which the author defends Kobzar's creative heritage from the encroachments of communist ideology and propaganda; a number of journalistic articles and reviews: “To the youth!”, “Like anxiety, so to God”, “National justice”, “43rd”, “Stalin becomes white, and his soul is black”, “Stalin is bleeding” etc. At the heart of Sytnyk's journalism, as well as poetic creativity, are the two oppositional macro-concepts “Ukraine” and “Moscow”, which belong to the writer's national-historiosophical conceptual sphere since they illuminate two opposite worlds, two incompatible mentalities from the standpoint of historical, cultural, existential-philosophical and spiritual-moral existence and development of Ukrainian and Moscow ethnic groups in general. A national discourse unfolds in “Vasylkivski visti” despite the “official” materials that the occupation authorities demanded from the official Ukrainian-language publication. M. Sytnyk publishes works of art, reviews, reviews and articles by many Ukrainian artists (Taras Shevchenko, Bohdan Lepky, Fedir Dudko, Ulas Samchuk, Petro Karpenko-Krynytsia, Rostislav Vasylenko, Neofit Kybalyuk, Leonid Mosendz, Roman Brzeskyi, Yuriy Boyko, Apollon Trembovetskyi), cultivating the Ukrainian word and Ukrainian thought in the Motherland occupied by the Nazis.
