FEATURES OF LANGUAGE PORTRAIT IN MODERN UKRAINIAN PROSE FOR CHILDREN (BASED ON THE STORIES OF OLHA MAKSYMCHUK)

Abstract

The article deals with the features of language portraiture in Olha Maksymchuk’s stories for children. A verbal portrait is a description of the character’s external features, his internal state, which ensures the integrity of the artistic image, for which the artistic and verbal detail is extremely important. Its purpose is to serve as a means of character creation, typification and individualization of heroes. According to our conclusions, the language image is one of the main textcreative elements in the writer’s fantastic dilogy. Portraits of very positive but not ideal heroes were created. These portraits are mosaic, but integral, deeply written psychologically. Internal features dominate the depiction of characters. This is a distinguishing feature of the writer’s portrait. The appearance is described very little, only the color of the eyes and hair is emphasized, because the color names play an important role in the plot of the work: this is how Good and Evil are divided. The language means of the works are simple and understandable for readers. Penetration into the fabric of texts that characterize, phrases and spatial, even reduced lexemes is relevant. To specify and individualize the characters, the writer resorts to the means of imagery. It mostly uses epithets, especially color names, which acquire figurative meanings. We also find various comparisons that express portraits, and sometimes metaphors and other tropes.
