UKRAINIAN-LANGUAGE TRANSLATIONS OF SCHULZ’S LITERARY PROSE: SCIENTOMETRIC ASPECT

Abstract

The rapid development of modern science led to the emergence in the middle of the 20th century of a new branch of science – scientometrics, which is engaged in statistical research, collection of quantitative data for various academic disciplines. It is clear that mainly the tasks of quantitative science are solved by specialized services. However, for private search tasks of a real user, one can choose some methods that allow navigating more accurately and, most importantly, faster in the information field of a particular subject area. The purpose of the outlined article is a statistical and quantitative presentation of the scientometric direction of Ukrainian-language translations of Bruno Schulz’s prose works for the systematization and generalization of Schulz’s literary discourse in modern Ukrainian literary studies. The specificity of the object of the study and the purpose of the scientific study have led to the use of the following methods: descriptive; scientometric, in particular statistical, counting of the number of publications; quantitative, component, and contextual-interpretive analysis; analysis and inductive generalization of the obtained facts; elements of receptive analysis. The article brings to light the most comprehensive updated and systematized information, in particular in the form of tables, regarding the structuring of translators and translations of Schulz’s literary works concerning the binary oppositions of the story (collection) ↔ translator and translator ↔ Schulz’s literary discourse according to formal (quantitative) features, such as: chronological, authorial, belonging to the translator, which, in turn, in the future makes it possible to structure the relevant material on the basis of content deeply and thoroughly, thematic, typological, achievements of specific translators and Schulzologists. The materials of the proposed research will help Schulzologists, in particular future translators, to save time when justifying the choice of a specific work of art by Bruno Schulz for translation, as well as for further detailed scrupulous study of all or individual translations of this or that interpreter.
