Abstract

Summary. The article examines modern English-language comics and their typology, as well as the history of the formation of this genre. They are an integral part of modern literature and are very popular among readers of various ages, particularly teenagers. They have been proven to be a ‘picture story’ or ‘picture story,’ combining verbal and visual elements and addressing severe issues simply, namely with pictures and a minimum of text. This way of providing information is the most receptive and the least vulnerable. The authors established that numerous studies testify to the positive psychological effect of reading a comic book and establish a painless perception and awareness of reality by readers. Accordingly, with the help of graphic stories and the creation of a specific image of the character, it is possible to provide psychological support and constant psycho-emotional support to people of different ages, which determines the relevance of studying the peculiarities of the “comic” genre. The article aims to analyze the origin of comics, their typology, and their impact on society’s problems. They usually differ in their shape and format. According to the features of the form, they are divided into annuals or Annuals, British annuals, monthly editions (Monthly), represented by a series or many series, BD (Labandedessinee) (European comics), webcomic, and graphic novel. Therefore, several approaches to classifying comics depend on their form, volume, style, genre, plot, etc. They are realized in different genres and their style. As a visual means of transmitting information, comics are successfully used in various fields, particularly in education, educational and preventive activities, etc. The authors found that they play a significant therapeutic role in maintaining and preserving mental health, which is especially relevant for Ukraine, which is in a state of war.
