SPECIFICS OF RISE REPRESENTATION OF UKRAINIAN NATIONAL CHARACTER IN THE CYCLE OF FAIRY TALES BY MARYNA PAVLENKO “A WISH AND A HALF. FAIRY TALES FROM THE YALOSOVETA’S CHEST”

Abstract

The article considers the specificity of representing the features of the Ukrainian national character in the cycle of fairy tales by Maryna Pavlenko “A wish and a half. Fairy tales from the Yalosoveta’s chest”. The article describes the state of research of the issue in the study of literature of our country. The following research methods are applied: systematic, historical-typological and cultural-historical. The stress is laid on the relevance of the theme, which is related to the activation of the processes of nation-making, self-search, spiritual and social strengthening, the formation of civic consciousness, moral and ethical maturity in Ukrainian society. It is noted that the work contains information about the ethnopsychological peculiarities of the people, and the writer reproduces the spirit of the nation through its own thoughts and feelings. The national character in the works of fiction emphasizes the psychology of behaviour, moral stereotypes, as well as exposes the deep emotional layer, sore spots of historical memory and the fate of the people. It is found out that Maryna Pavlenko’s fairy tales are clearly targeted (for children of preschool and primary school age), they convey the moral and ethical values of the Ukrainian people, introduce them to the peculiarities of national life and the unique existence of personalities, which differs from the features of other environments. Depicting the characters, writer considers as priority ones, those, which are endowed with love of freedom, quick-wittedness, responsibility, courage, generosity, hospitality, and neatness. Using the features of fairy-tale poetics, Maryna Pavlenko avoids open didactics, instead she demonstrates the synthesis of folklore and literary interaction, the originality of the artistic world of a literary fairy tale, which is determined with the features of fiction and the author’s position. Thus, the author shows the development of the tradition of the literary fairy-tale system, the national character of literature. It is determined that a prospective tendency for further scientific studies can be an integrated comprehension of the array of different genres of the latest Ukrainian works for children and youth as to the originality of representing the features of the Ukrainian national character in them, finding out their stylistic originality, identifying intertextual connections with the folk poetic tradition.
