Abstract

The thesis reveals the anthroposystem of Yu. Mushketyk’s novel «Brother Against Brother», which is represented by two large groups: real names (names of real historical personalities) and author’s names (used to name fictional characters). It is established that the mentioned in the novel names of the characters have different genetic affiliation. According to the etymology of a particular character’s name, we can distinguish the groups of Greek, Latin, Hebrew and Slavic names origins. The characters’ proper names in the studied novel «Brother Against Brother» reflect a unique historical and cultural portrait of the Cossack era in Ukraine in the XVII-XVIII centuries with its peculiar multinational noun derivation. We have found that the writer used models of one-, two- and three-component ways of characters’ naming in the novel. The most frequently used in the novel is the one-component naming represented by the either first name or last name, that can usually be accompanied with additional appellative units. Two-component way of naming is also rather common formula to call the characters. The basis to create two-component anthropoformulas in the text of the historical novel «Brother Against Brother» by Yu. Mushketyk is the name of the character subjected to be combined with the other simple anthroponyms. We have found that the three-component way of naming is hardly available in the text of the novel, because in those days of the Cossack era that anthropoformula was functionally related to the official etiquette, officialese, and respectively, it was rarely used in everyday language. Thus, the analysis of the anthroposystem of Yu. Mushketyk’s novel «Brother Against Brother» showed that the work embodies the system of real and traditional Ukrainian nouns. An etymological analysis of the historical noun of the novel shows the traditional set of names of Greek, Roman, Hebrew and Slavic origin.
