ILLUSTRATED ONLINE DICTIONARY OF NATIONALLY MARKED VOCABULARY OF THE UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE: OBSTACLES FOR CREATION

Abstract

The article considers the need to create such auxiliary didactic materials, the use of which will help in learning new lexical material, visualization of unknown or incomprehensible to foreigners facts of history and culture of the ethnic group whose language is studied. These include, in particular, universal illustrated online dictionaries of nationally labeled vocabulary that can be useful for teachers of Ukrainian as a foreign language to demonstrate to students the realities of Ukrainian culture they encounter in their teaching materials and to provide them with the most accessible information about those realities. The purpose of this publication is to propose the idea of compiling an illustrated online dictionary of nationally marked vocabulary of the Ukrainian language. The works of leading linguists are analyzed, which testified to the contradictions and ambiguities in the interpretation of some terms of intercultural communication. It was found that the dictionary articles of the illustrated online dictionary of nationally marked vocabulary of the Ukrainian language should include non-equivalent vocabulary with ethnocultural component, lexical gaps, lexical exoticisms, barbarisms, ethnographisms, which reflect the peculiarities of the ukrainian national-linguistic picture of the world in ethnology, folklore, literature, art, etc. and denote persons, objects or phenomena that can be illustrated with drawings or photographs. Several options of lexical material selection for this dictionary are offered. It was found that the reasons that complicate the online dictionary of nationally marked or non-equivalent vocabulary of the Ukrainian language are primarily differences in the interpretation of specialized terminology and ambiguity in the classification of this vocabulary, as well as lack of clear criteria for selection and methodology of material selection. It is stated that the compilation of such a dictionary is relevant today, in demand and needs to be implemented as soon as possible.
