THE CONCEPT OF “DOCTOR” IN THE LINGUISTIC PICTURE OF THE WORLD OF THE FIRST-JEAR STUDENTS OF THE MEDICAL FACULTIES OF BOGOMOLETS NATIONAL MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the concept "doctor", namely the verbal expression of the said concept by students of the first year of medical faculties of the Bogomolets National Medical University. The purpose of the study is to establish the conceptual core and peripheral values of the declared concept, to determine the main verbalizers indicated by the students. The relevance of the research lies in the need to supplement the data on the verbalization of the concept of "doctor", to highlight its specificity when interpreted by students of the first year of medical higher education. The material of the research is the questionnaires of the first-year students of medical faculties of the Bogomolets National Medical University, in which they defined the concept of "doctor" in the amount of 135 units. In the anonymous questionnaire filled out by the students, the concept of "doctor" should be defined and the main qualities that this specialist should possess should be indicated. The resulting definitions were analyzed and divided into conceptual core and periphery. The main qualities that, according to the students, reveal the researched image, and therefore reproduce the value orientations of the recipients themselves, are highlighted. Linguistic means of expressing the researched concept are also determined: allegory, metaphor, etc. Definitions that coincide with the interpretation of this concept in specialized dictionaries belong to the conceptual core, while peripheral values reflect the worldview of students, their moral and ethical values, and therefore are interesting for study. Among the main qualities that a doctor should possess are confidence, benevolence and honesty. Along with professional qualities, students also indicated personal qualities that contribute to the formation and development of a complete personality (humanity, courage, sincerity, patience, endurance). This study contributes to a better understanding of the value orientations of the young generation, their moral and ethical qualities, which undoubtedly reflect the idea of universal human ideals, the priority of universal spiritual values formed under the influence of national history, culture, and education.
