THE FUNCTIONING OF SECONDARY INTERJECTIONS IN THE ASPECT OF THE CATEGORY OF ESTIMATION

Abstract

The article decribes the peculiarities of the use of secondary interjections as discursive words in the focus of axiological pragmalinguistics, which is the purpose of this scientific work. The terms «interjection», «tonality of speech», «emotional», «evaluative» have been updated. The role of secondary interjections in the implementation of the evaluative function has been defined. The main methods of research are the sampling method, which is used to select actual material; component analysis for modeling the semantic load of the studied lexemes; axiological for updating and revealing the evaluative component in contexts; analysis and synthesis for a systematic description and representation of the types of studied units. The examples from works of Ukrainian fiction from the 18th century to the beginning of the 21st century were used to confirm the theoretical provisions of the study. In the process of analysis, the definitions of the meanings of secondary interjections from the dictionary of inter-participial homonyms of the modern Ukrainian language (Hlibchuk & Dobosevych, 2016) was used to describe the peculiarities of their use in the aspect of linguoaxiology. The scientific novelty of the article is an attempt to describe the specifics of using secondary interjections to express axiological meanings in the modern Ukrainian language. A classification of the studied units is proposed according to their participation in the modeling of positively or negatively evaluated tonality of speech. It is proved that some of them are marked by multifunctionality, that is the ability to represent polar evaluative shades of meanings. These units can be used in ironic reinterpretation, which causes a change in the axiological nature of the expression to the opposite. The analyzed material indicates the need to adjust modern dictionaries of the Ukrainian language regarding the qualification of secondary interjections not only as «emotional» but also as «evaluative / emotional-evaluative». The definitions of interjections should be expanded regarding their ability to be multifunctional or to change the evaluative meaning in an ironically marked context. This will provide a more detailed and comprehensive description of these elements, which will help modern speakers trace their stereotypical functions to improve their language production.
