LEXICAL AND SEMANTIC FEATURES OF THE NAMES OF WOMEN’S AND MEN’S HATS OF POKUTYANS (BASED ON THE DIALECTS OF THE VILLAGES OF STETSEVA AND STETSIVKA, IVANO-FRANKIVSK REGION, UKRAINE)

Abstract

Summary. The article deals with the collected folk vocabulary in the dialects of Pokuttya in the villages of Stetseva and Stetsivka of the Sniatyn territorial community of the Kolomyia district of the Ivano-Frankivsk region. The vocabulary of the spheres that are most relevant for the villagers and that express the originality of the nomination in the local language was chosen for the study. The research was carried out on the material of one lexical-semantic group to denote ‘men’s and women’s hats’. The differences of such names caused by the development of material culture, migration processes of the inhabitants of these villages, modernization of life and historical changes, etc. are highlighted. The purpose of the article is to make a complete systematic analysis of the fixed vocabulary. The research methodology involves the use of the following general scientific methods: systemic, systematization and descriptive. The scientific novelty of the work is a comprehensive regional study of appellate clothing vocabulary, as well as the establishment of linguistic factors, which are manifested by interlingual and interdialectal contact of dialects, archaization of tokens and the emergence of neologisms. Conclusions. The results of the study showed the peculiarities of changes in the name of hats, as a result of which the semantic volume of words may be narrowed or expanded nominations. Tokens enter into semantic oppositions: purpose, time, size, thickness, location, seasons, manner of wearing. Nomination of women’s hats is also divided by motivational characteristics: appearance, method of manufacture, material, cut, size, national character. Some tokens have synonymous equivalents and special purpose. On the basis of the type of fur there are parallel forms of men’s hats. By the linguistic nature of the names of women’s and men’s clothes are presented in two groups: one-word and analytical nominations. Respondents of the older generation have preserved the old features of dialects, while the younger generation is increasing the vocabulary with new names.
