NATIONAL-EXISTENTIAL DIMENSIONS OF IVAN HNATIUK`S LYRICS

Abstract

Summary. The article examines Ivan Hnatiuk’s lyrics in the light of the national character of existence concept is made. It’s addressed to define and characterize the artist’s poetry dominant modes as the conceptional and philosophical foundation of his creativity. An integrated approach using methods of analysis, synthesis as well as comparative and hermeneutic are applied. The complex methodology made it possible to identify and distinguish a number of dominant modes of the Ivan Hnatiuk’s artistic paradigm. It provided an opportunity to investigate the specifics of the author’s literary interpretation, to consider the manifestation of some provisions of the philosophy of existentialism through the spiritual coordinates of the individual. The scientific novelty of the investigation is that the use of these methods enabled the possibility to analyze the Ivan Hnatiuk’s creative works in the plane of the national character concept. Ivan Hnatiuk’s poetry makes you think about the existence of a separate personality, the purpose and meaning of life. The author’s conception of the world and his fate reflect the national identity, deep integration, and historical consciousness of the native people. Ivan Hnatiuk’s lyrical hero cherishes Ukraine as his spiritual heart, his poetic words are full of national spirit. Ivan Hnatiuk establishes indelible human, national, historical, moral, aesthetic, and spiritual values artistically comprehending the phenomena of our history and contemporaneity. In his verses a person and a nation are depicted as a single whole, their interconnection and interdependence enable the author to create a special artistic concept of a person being as a national, this is its true essence. The poet derives a generalized image of the nation as an exceptional spiritual world created by clusters of unique «individuals». It was established that three absolute constants occupy a decisive place in the Ivan Hnatiuk’s poetic works: God, Ukraine, and Freedom as modes of national-existential interpretation of his works. Freedom in the poetry of Ivan Hnatiuk becomes the category that forms the leading structure of the national existence. The poet depicts the will not as a final goal but as an eternal path. Ivan Hnatiuk always remained faithful to his central motives such as devotion to the Ukrainian people, native language, homeland memory. These tenets were the principal on his creative and life way.
