Abstract

In the article on the material of Ivan Franko’s work “Among their own. The episode from the relations between Galicians and Ukrainians in 1897” analyzes the political terminology of the writer, outlines its structural and semantic features and national centric dominants using structural-statistical, descriptive and national-existential methods that widely reflect the linguistic aspects of his language, including the Franko’s terminological ideological and national views and the realities of that time. It was found that the most productive is the vocabulary of political movements, doctrines, currents, principles, ideologies. Less productively, the names of subjects supporters of political ideas and movements are singled out; forms of the electoral process and interdisciplinary terms: political and economic, political and legal. In the analyzed article by I. Franko, two-component (6), single (24) terms of terminology are structurally traced, from which synonymous (2) and variable (2) forms, as evidence of the development of political language in synchrony and expansion of this type of terminology in semantic variations, through the interspersion of foreign language tendences at the linguistic and mental levels, which was reflected in the political tendences of that time, among which the political and legal terms and forms of the electoral process have survived to this day. We explained Ivan Franko’s political terminology through the prism of the national imperative, which forms his holistic vision of the political situation, directions of its development and giving impetus to the nation-building of the people in general and the elite in particular. It has been established that Ivan Franko’s political terminology reflects the events of that time in various ways, reproduces the development of the Ukrainian political terminology system and nominates nation-building invectives deeply rooted in the priority of the independent, demarcated Ukrainian self as a reflection of the national idea.
