POETICS OF THE MISTICAL IN THE MYKHAILO HAFIIA TRAISTA’S STORY “MAN OF THE AFTERLIFE”

Abstract

The theme of the supernatural, mysterious has always worried human thought, therefore during the progress of civilization, many attempts were made to comprehend the unconscious. A productive way to penetrate the unconscious has become verbal art, which allows you to go beyond the profane world. The combination of real and intuitive types of artistic world perception is a distinctive feature of the work of the modern Ukrainian writer of Romania Mykhailo Hafiia Traista. The artistic comprehension of the consequences of human interaction with otherworldly manifestations underlies his story “Man of the afterlife”. The poetics of the mystical in the work through the prism of certain principles of receptive aesthetics, the mythological school of literary criticism and the intertextual method is carried out in the article. M. Traista uses the motifs of crossing two parallel worlds – human and unearthly, due to which the main character acquires a mystical experience of interaction with supernatural forces, which negatively affects his future fate. Strengthens the irrational flow of the work and the motive of time travel. The author, resorting to the reception of a mystical assumption, does not give a rational explanation for such a development of events, encouraging the recipient to co-create the text. The article founds out that the mystical content of the story is mainly based on folklore sources, namely, folk tales about the dead at the wedding, who were in the author’s native Maramures (Romania), beliefs in the supernatural power of temporal, spatial boundaries, as well as the transient states of man. The mystical atmosphere of the story is also strengthened by mythological imagessymbols and religious (biblical) motifs. Such observations allow us to conclude that the story of Mykhailo Hafiia Traista “Man of the afterlife” fully fits into the framework of the literary meta-genre of mysticism, in addition, we observe certain features of detective, philosophical, socio-psychological, Gothic genres in the work. The means of creating an atmosphere of the supernatural in the work are: the non-viability of the situation, which is the core of the plot of the story; receiving an image of the interaction of the two dimensions; acceptance of a mystical assumption; inspiration, associativity, intertextuality.
