MICROTOPONYMS OF DROHOBYCH: ONOMASTIC, LINGUISTICS AND CULTURAL DIMENSION

Abstract

In the article analyzes microtoponyms, proper names of small, often natural physical-geographical, rarely man-made objects, a number of settlements of Drohobych region in the linguistic and cultural dimension. The purpose of the article is to analyze the microtoponyms of twenty settlements of Drohobych region, to prove the importance of collecting, preserving and systematizing research units. Microtoponyms are closely related to natural conditions, landscape, management. The analysis showed that the naming of micro-objects preserves the traditions of Ukrainian nouns. The names of micro-objects are motivated by appeals to designations of landscapes and names related to agriculture and animal husbandry, appeals of hydrographic origin, florolexems. Many microtoponyms are motivated by onyms (anthroponyms, oikonyms, hydronyms). For the purpose of comprehensive analysis of the names of small geographical objects of Drohobych region, their complete collection and systematization is called promising. This will make it possible to preserve rare geographical terminology, reconstruct appellations and those that are sometimes not recorded in well-known lexicons and onomasticons. It is proved that microtoponyms formed under the influence of natural and geographical conditions of the area, socio-economic and linguistic-cultural factors contain valuable ethnocultural information. Emphasis is placed on the importance of collecting, storing and describing the studied units. Microtoponyms as units of oral folk speech, respond quickly to changing natural conditions, are more mobile, unstable, and variable compared to the names of large objects. Therefore, they need to be recorded and explored as long as they exist directly in living speech. The urgency of the article is correct to the need for further comprehensive study of microtoponymy of Drohobych with the study of semantics and etymology of the motivational base. This will make it possible to professionally analyze the creation and functioning of the names of small geographical objects in the lexical system of the Ukrainian language.
