The article is devoted to the issue of the origin and spread of English borrowings in the Swedish language. It is known that there is a process of borrowing words that causes changes in a language. The English language is the dominant language today, as well as it has been over the centuries. That is why the English language is actively integrating into Swedish culture. The purpose of the study is to conduct a social and historical analysis of the spread of English borrowings in Swedish during the twentieth century. A complex research methodology was used to solve the tasks of the research. General scientific methods such as deduction, induction, abstraction, concretization and system analysis were used. The main methods of analysis of lexical phenomena in the source language and translation are linguistic and stylistic analysis, complex contrastive-translational analysis with involvement of elements of contextual analysis, component analysis, and transformational analysis. When comparing English lexical units and their Swedish translation, a comparative method was used, as well as the method of distributive analysis, and the method of dictionary definitions. The scientific novelty of the obtained results is that there is only a small number of works devoted to the study of anglicisms in the Swedish language. Due to the rapid development of society, science and technology, the language is constantly changing and replenishing through borrowings. This indicates the need for a deeper insight into the essence of the concept of "borrowings" and their classification. The study provides an in-depth analysis of scientific sources that consider the features of language borrowings and the scope of their application. Conclusions. Thus, the article provides a general description of the period under study (1900 – 1999) in terms of the impact of English on Swedish; the main categories of anglicisms in the Swedish language have been singled out and considered; the selected categories of anglicisms were compared with the time frames during which they spread in the Swedish language the most intensively; the main types of anglicisms in the Swedish language have been identified and analyzed.
